(Before It’s News)

8 counties in Colorado want to break away from Colorado and form their own state. It may be easier said than done. The rules for creating new states are outlined in Article IV, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, which require the approval of the existing state’s legislature and Congress.

Each county plans to put the question on the ballot for people to vote on in November. In US history ths has been tried 75 times throughout our history with only 5 actually happening. Vermont split from New York, Kentucky from Virginia, Tennessee from North Carolina, Maine from Massachusetts, and West Virginia from Virginia.  The 8 colorado counties are in North Colorado and have rich oil and gas deposits and the agricultural industry that contributes substantially to Colorado’s economy.
Good luck to the counties.  -Mort
