Evidence shows that malachite was mined in Egypt as early as 4000 BCE. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used malachite for jewelry and ground it to use as eye shadow. It was also ground and used as a pigment for paints. Unfortunately, this resulted in being a health hazard since the copper content of the dust released from grinding this stone makes it toxic to breathe. Apparently the green hues were fantastic and unequaled until the industrial revolution. Those who restore and conserve old paintings still use the old malachite based formula for authenticity.
Many are unaware that malachite is often a result of weathering of copper ores and is often found together with azurite, goethite, and calcite. It has been polished, and carved into ornaments for fine jewelry for thousands of years. In the Middle Ages, it was often used to protect against the evil eye, witches, and other dangers. It is said to protect travelers and children, and the wearer receives protection from accidents, unsuccessful businesses, and undesirable business associations. It is advised to place it under your pillow to get rid of nightmares. Malachite also protects well by powerfully cleaning the auric field, rapidly absorbing undesirable energies such as your computer, TV, and cell phone.
Although it is a stone of balance in relationships, it should not be used for physical healing. Malachite has been called the “mirror of the soul”.
It is variable in its condition. It reaches the inner feelings of the person and reflects what is there, negative or positive. It is so beautiful that one would like to wear it in jewelry, but caution must be used when wearing Malachite. It will always reflect how you feel, if you feel negative don’t wear Malachite. It reminds us that we have a dual nature and it is up to each person to know and rule his own person.Chakras – Heart and Solar Plexus Influenced Channels/Meridians – Liver Zodiac – Pisces, Scorpio, Sagittarius (Ancient)
