UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage has said leaving the European Union (EU) would “open a door to the world”.
In the party’s annual conference, Farage urged the UK exit from the EU, saying the country would prosper outside the 28-nation bloc.
UKIP leader said the European Commission had “hijacked” the union ideals and that Britain seeks “national renewal” by acting independently on its own way.
Farage told his party members that those who say the EU exit would negatively affect access to trading markets are the “true voices of Little England.”
However, he said “the idea that the EU will start a trade war with Britain is simply not credible”.
A recent survey conducted by YouGov and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) showed earlier that 86 percent of UK business leaders want the country to remain as a member of the EU.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed to stage a referendum on Britain’s continued membership in the EU in 2017 if his party remains in power after the 2015 general election.
The Conservative PM has made the referendum pledge under pressure from his party’s anti-EU backbenchers as well as from his coalition partners in the Liberal Democrat party.
