Give It to God

In the book, The Practice of the Presence of God, the priest who interviewed Brother Lawrence, a kitchen worker in a seventeenth-century Paris monastery, recorded that Brother Lawrence told him:

That our sanctification did not depend on changing our works, but in doing that for God’s sake which we commonly do for our own.

In those few words lies great wisdom. if you’re frustrated because you can’t find the time for a spiritual practice, you need not look any further than at what is in front of you at any given moment. Simply by transforming your intention, you transform your experience and raise your level of consciousness.

No matter what you’re doing, when you decide to do it for God, your thoughts, words, and actions become spiritualized, and any division between your material and spiritual efforts is dissolved. As Brother Lawrence so humbly and eloquently noted, the doorway to heaven is wherever you happen to be.
